Sweden - April 1st, 2008: A new wave of feminism is causing controversy in Sweden, where the case of two young women bathing topless at a local swimming pool raised questions about sexual equality.

The two bare-breasted women were asked by a lifeguard to cover up their bodies. Due to their refusal, the girls were simply asked to leave the place. What some people would call a simply convention, is being pointed as discrimination by some groups. Women say that such rule should be also applied by men, which would be forced to cover up their chest as well. Otherwise, they want the right to have their breasts so desexualized as men’s.

Women so created a network called Bara Bröst, which translates literally as “bare breasts” or “just breasts”. Their aim is to debate the unwritten social rules that may be discriminatory against the female body. On the other hand, a spokesperson of the leisure complex where the incident happened explained that women are not allowed to bathe topless due to security and hygiene aspects.
